Welcome to the Elkwood Campground’s Website!
Elkwood is located in the heart of Michigan’s most visited tourist areas. We are minutes from trails for ORVs or snowmobiles. Access to the Sturgeon River (voted by Field and Stream Magazine as one of the top ten rivers for trout fishing) is 2 miles away. The Sturgeon is also perfect for canoeing, tubing and kayaking.
Wildwood Lake for fishing and boating has an access ¼ miles from Elkwood. Within minutes, you can be at world class golf courses in Gaylord, the casinos in St. Ignace and Petoskey, Mackinac Island, and The Cross of the Woods Shrine in Indian River. Pigeon River State Forest for fishing, horseback riding trails, hiking, elk viewing and hunting is 10 minutes away.
Elkwood is a nature lover’s campground. Elk, deer, and wild turkey wander through the campground and are seen on our hiking trails. Birdwatchers love visiting us. We are home to many kinds of birds. Sand hill cranes, pileated woodpeckers and red tailed hawks are often glimpsed in the campground. We occasionally see an eagle flying overhead. Bring your telescope and take advantage of clear unpolluted skies for star gazing. In the spring, hunt for morel mushrooms or enjoy the lovely wildflowers. Pick black berries and raspberries in the
summer in our back meadows. In the fall, listen for the elk bugling and enjoy the autumn colors.
Take a dip in our pool. Let the kids play in our old fashioned playground. Play a game of horseshoes, volleyball or basketball or just relax in front of a roaring campfire.
Come and visit us. Our goal is to insure you leave with wonderful memories of your time at Elkwood.
Hope to see you soon!
